IJC Commissioners tour Lake of the WoodsThe International Joint Commission will submit recommendations to Canada and the United States on December 17, 2011.  The Commissions report will be released publically during the first week of January, 2012.  We expect the IJC to recommend establishment of an International Watershed Board with comprehensive pollution authorities for Lake of the Woods. It will then be up to our Governments to act together to make it happen.

Our focus shifts now from convincing the IJC to convincing our governments to commit to implement and resource the IJC recommendations for our lake. The Foundation will keep the pressure on, to make sure that the IJC recommendations do not get “shelved” and that all levels of governments commit to Lake of the Woods for the long haul. This will be a major thrust of our work in the coming year.
